Life is defined by opportunities, even the ones we miss. The choices we have made, make us who we truly are, not just our abilities.
This series started at a time when I was going through a serious transitional phase and had trouble deciding if I had the courage to pursue my passion. It was a soul searching experience that lasted almost three years as the decision was not going to come easy.
Juggling between the two disciplines was never easy. It is quite an indescribable feeling to hold back that urge and apply your mind elsewhere. It was almost as though one hardened part of my head insisted on pushing my psyche out of gear. I would be on the edge, as if trying to read station signs from a speeding train. A station approaches. You can almost read something, but you are traveling too fast, flying by, before you can make anything of it. But many times, it was no good, for I was speeding too fast and I wanted to implore the visions in my mind to stay, long enough, without distraction of other impeding responsibilities.
My mind was seeking responses, but I had no time to even register anything. Here the Inner Reflection series was born. Typically holding on to my thoughts with my eyes closed, breathing deeply, without being rushed- the artworks reflect the inner peace and celebration of personal space.
I realized, I cant wait for the perfect moment, I had to just seize the moment and make it perfect. It took me a long time, but ultimately, I realized that one doesnt always need a plan. Sometimes you just need to breathe, trust, let go and see what happens. And most importantly, find your peace.
Many of my works in this series use water as an element. Under water, there is no possibility of conversation with another person. It is in this submerged state that one is perhaps the most self consumed-yet aware; at peace with self- yet there is a struggle to keep going, to live. This is where you truly find yourself. A voluntary solitude which can teach us a lot about oneself.
